The Georgia Guidestones were a controversial landmark in rural Georgia, that were sadly partially destroyed in a terrorist attack today, and then subsequently demolished by the city the Georgia Guidestones were gifted to due to “safety reasons.” The Georgia Guidestones for 42 years attracted conspiracy theories from both sides of the political aisle, all of which were pretty amusing when put into perspective. Conservatives accused the Georgia Guidestones of being an illuminati / satanic / New World Order monument of some sort, while Liberals accused the Georgia Guidestones’ construction of being funded by an undisclosed but alleged white supremacist. All in all, if both conservatives and liberals hate something, it’s usually worth looking into because chances are it’s completely rational. In this article, we’ll be looking at just what was so controversial about the Georgia Guidestones and a little bit of the history leading up to its creation, as well as how many of its values line up with those of DMSG.
The Guidestones themselves were interesting monuments, that stood just over 19 feet tall, weighed in at 237,746 pounds in total, and had eight modern languages, as well as four ancient languages, inscribed into them. The Guidestones were made at the height of the Cold War, and were likely created to provide use for survivors of a nuclear apocalypse, giving out vague but sound instructions on how to live and run a society. In addition to this, the Guidestones had several nifty features that allowed people to keep track of time, with solar cycles, the north star, and even the day on the calendar being shown through the use of sunlight. The Guidestones came with ten instructions, in the eight different modern languages inscribed into the monument, that said:
- Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
- Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
- Unite humanity with a living new language.
- Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
- Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
- Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
- Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
- Balance personal rights with social duties.
- Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
- Be not a cancer on the Earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.
In regard to the instructions inscribed onto Georgia Guidehouse, DMSG takes issue with people who take issue with what is said here. Due to the simplicity and vagueness of the instructions, it allows lots of room for misinterpretation and some Americans, in another case of free speech abuse, have run wild with their interpretations. Tackling the population point mentioned in the first instruction, many people not understanding the context of this being a cold war-era monument think that this instruction advocates slaughtering over 90% of the Earth’s population. This first instruction assumes that a nuclear apocalypse has engulfed Earth and the population is less than half a billion at the time it’s read in the future, which wasn’t necessarily an uncommon view in the years it was created. With that cleared up, DMSG believes that the population of the humanity shouldn’t be hard capped at any arbitrary number once we possess the ability to create colonies beyond the orbit of earth, as that would hinder our species’ ability to spread out across the stars. In the meantime, DMSG does advocate hard capping the human population, through laws like the one-child policy, forced abortions, and so on based on a couple’s social credit. Due to the fact that the first instruction is more about minimizing resource consumption and environmental footprints, DMSG would argue that any anti-natal policies would have to be applied globally, or otherwise it’d be akin to genocide. Environmental burdens should never be borne by some nations and not others, since we all share the same Earth.
The second instruction, that liberals bash for being pro-eugenics and white supremacist despite it advocating greater diversity, DMSG agrees with as well. The problem with people that are against eugenics is that they fail to take into consideration the welfare of the people born with debilitating conditions, as well as the emotional and financial toll on the families of these genetic victims and the systems that support them. People that are too disabled to work, start families, and contribute to society are an unnecessary expenditure, from an emotional, economic, and environmental standpoint. The fact that people can be genetically modified before they’re born to have zero defects is a complete game changer. The fact that liberals take issue with eugenics, done in the fashion of genetic modification, gives you an idea of their priorities and the fact that liberals assume eugenics is a white supremacist idea gives you an idea about how they perceive some people. DMSG completely agrees with the second instruction.
DMSG has no real opinion on the third instruction, other than the fact that constructing artificial languages promises a great deal of efficiency gains and would be desirable eventually. The problem with the third instruction is that transitioning to a new language, especially one where no pre-existing media or literature exists for it, where no one really speaks it, is essentially useless for the average worker. There’s a genuine reason Esperanto never caught on, and without a program being pushed sharply globally, an artificial language would never catch on. DMSG agrees with the fourth instruction, but feels that reason should govern everything, rather than be just a component of what is and isn’t allowed. In a logical and deterministic universe, applying reason to everything you think and do is the highest goal to strive for. DMSG has no qualms with the fifth instruction and agrees with it wholeheartedly.
DMSG has no disagreements with the sixth instruction, other than the fact that it believes that international governments are more prone to abuse than even traditional national governments. The reasons for this are innumerable, and if we can’t effectively hammer out a working model of international governance in the coming years, that will be very problematic. In Dialectical Materialism, things evolve to become complex over time, and as the economy grows more interconnected across the world, the more the world will need an international regulating body. The fact that the United Nations sucks should not deter us. DMSG agrees completely with the seventh instruction, which we can imagine probably rankled a good chunk of the liberals that read it, due to their overwhelming reliance on useless jobs in corporate offices and government bureaus. DMSG also agrees completely with the eighth instruction. DMSG also believes completely with the ninth instruction. DMSG, unsurprisingly, agrees 100% with the last instruction as well.
Given that the monument was meant to help people in the future figure things out, from giving them a sense of time to advising them on how to live sustainably, DMSG sees zero problems with the monument. The fact that so many people hated this monument, out of imagined religious hysteria or out of imagined white supremacy, is a shame and lends credence to the fact that not everyone’s voice matters. If someone can’t be reasonable about something, they shouldn’t be allowed to voice an opinion on it. The fact that the monument mentions the importance of diversity, while being written in Asian, African, and European languages, and liberals accuse it of being a symbol of white supremacy is hilarious. The fact that the monument mentions the importance of faith, compassion, and tradition, while being written in Hebrew, and conservatives accuse it of being satanic is also hilarious. It goes to show that anything that falls outside the liberal camp will be accused of white supremacy, and anything that falls outside the conservative camp will attract a broad variety of sacrilegious conspiracy theories. It’s a monument, presumably put up by someone that cared enough about people to undergo great expense to erect it, and this is the pushback it receives for telling people to live responsibly, ethically, and with restraint. The monument’s original mission may have been thwarted, but in its destruction, it showed just how awful and irrational American culture is today.
Perhaps in the future DMSG will erect its own Guidestones.
