As of today, DMSG has filed its taxes finally, which as a tax-exempt religious organization, was remarkably easy to do. We’ve been in operation since July of 2021, and just like what you’d expect from your typical group of socialist millennials, we procrastinated until we were at risk of losing our tax-exempt status. We filed our taxes with the Form 990-N, owing to the fact that our revenues are small enough for the federal government to not care. On another note, the organization is planning to relocate to somewhere permanently, with the intent to acquire a property for little to no cost through either a government auction, a federal / state / county surplus property program, or a land bank.
All in all, it’s been an exciting three calendar years since we’ve been incorporated and as the groundwork has been laid out, our expenses have ultimately dwindled to the point that less than a day’s worth of work is needed to sustain DMSG for the entire year currently. Our expenses in the past went largely towards website development costs, the production of art, and the providing of mutual aid for a commune, while over the course of this year, all we’ve paid for is simply the operating expenses of several accounts and the submitting of paperwork.
With our taxes having been filed, thus ensuring our continued existence as a federally recognized religious organization, it is worth saying now more than ever that as capitalism continues to decline and socialists continue to be scapegoated, DMSG serves as both a forum and a shield for freethinking socialists. Were it not for the comprehensive protections provided by the American government for free speech and religion, DMSG would not exist, and thus, while we strongly disagree with America’s current course, we do thank its Founding Fathers and the few constitution-abiding lawmakers left in office for continuing to afford us the ability to exist free of religious persecution. Putting it simply, America is the only developed country in the world where a group like DMSG could form, and we are eternally grateful for this privilege.
